For Amir Khan, each fight seems to be just more of the same. On June 21st, the aspiring living legend of boxing won his 18th consecutive professional fight in Birmingham, claiming victory over the Irish Michael Gomez. The fight was a tad more difficult than anticipated for Amir, who nonetheless retained his Commonwealth lightweight title in just five rounds.

“I made a couple of mistakes but you learn from them and every round I got better and better,” said the young boxer, not totally unscathed after the final bell. Better indeed, but still not good enough for Khan’s promoter, who thinks the young boxer “still has some way to go” before taking a tilt at the world title.

That is a very Jedi way of saying there is an awful lot of training ahead. The next fight, on September 6th, will hopefully be yet another occasion for Amir to keep his Commonwealth crown and another step towards becoming a legend.
