How do you turn the reboot of an old sci-fi franchise into the most anticipated movie of 2009? Ask JJ Abrams to reinvent the whole thing and insist that he A) cuts the cheese and B) hires, at long last, a warpingly sexy crew for the Enterprise.

The young cast of Star Trek XI looks low-fat indeed and Abrams definitely turned the heat up several notches. The posters released this week show Zachary Quinto as Spock (Vulcanians are smoldering by nature but nurture is also at work in this one), Eric Bana as Romulan villain Nero (anybody else transfixed by the dazzling tattoos and the chewed ears?) and Chris Pine as Captain Kirk (looking as hot as a photon torpedo).
