Screenwriter and director Alan Ball (American Beauty, Six Feet Under) persuaded HBO to let him adapt the Southern Vampire Mysteries books by Charlaine Harris into True Blood, a much-anticipated series that will premiere on September 7. The show details the co-existence of vampires and humans in a small Louisiana town. Made-in-Japan synthetic blood is commercially available, Vampires no longer need humans for their fix, but blending into our society clearly remains a challenge.
However, what really holds our attention is the ridiculously attractive male cast. British actor Stephen Moyer, a gorgeous 37-year-old, is starring as Bill Compton, the vampire lover of telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse. Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård, 32, is playing 1000-year-old Viking vampire Erik Northman. And last but not least, Australian actor Ryan Kwanten – also 32 — is Sookie’s handsome and charming older brother, Jason.
Expect fangs penetrating flesh, Ryan Kwanten naked in every other scene, graphic sex and gory bloodletting. Just so you understand how far we are from Buffy, one of the characters, Lafayette Reynold, is a vampire blood dealer and an escort who also runs a gay porn website.
Dang, they should have given the role to Ryan.
