French paddler Fabien Lefèvre was hoping to get France’s first gold medal, but he got silver instead. Germany’s Alexander Grimm won the Olympic Kayak K1 Men’s gold medal, and Togo’s Benjamin Boukpeti got bronze.
Touted as a gold-medal favorite — he won the bronze at the 2004 Athens Games and collected numerous victories in the 2008 Slalom Racing World Cup –, the 26-year-old Frenchman had even declared that he would be ashamed to return from Beijing with anything less than gold. Hence the tears in some of the screen captures below.
But don’t worry too much. Fabien quickly found solace with his pretty wife (sigh) and in numerology. Third in Athens and second in Beijing can only mean gold in London 2012, right?
Right.
