As president of Lucas Licensing, Howard Roffman is responsible for the licensing and marketing of all Lucasfilm properties in ancillary consumer markets, including the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies.
His interest in photography and gorgeous boys dates back to when he was a child, but it’s only in 1991 that he ceased to be a frustrated voyeur — as he puts it in his own bio — when he met his first models. “Suddenly, I realized that if I asked people to pose for me, I could bring all those pictures locked in my head into reality,” he writes.
That’s how he became one of the most influential homoerotic photographers in the world, though he insists that his work is about portraiture, not nudes or body parts. He wants the viewer to feel connected with his models.
His latest book of photography, Christopher and the Boys, was published this month by Bruno Gmünder Verlag and will be released stateside in October. It tells the true story of Christopher, a boy from Michigan who traveled to San Francisco with his parents several years ago, and fell in love with Jeremy, a friend of Howard. “Jeremy wanted Chris to return for purposes of pursuing that love and I wanted him to return for purposes of pursuing my photography,” explains the photographer — who brought Chris back and took his camera out.
That’s all we know about Christopher. We will tell you about the Boys next week.
