SCam Gigandet: It's Only the Beginning

The July issue of Flaunt magazine features Cam Gigandet (above photo), who played the role of an arrogant underground fighter in Never Back Down, a mixed martial arts drama — the reviews were kind of mixed too — released last spring and starring Sean Farris and Djimon Hounsou. “I’ve done this bad-guy role a lot. I’m drawn to playing someone with an edge,” Cam told Drew Tewksbury, “someone with something broken inside of him. Whether he views the world in a different way, or there’s something askew within the guy. When you have that, there’s so much freedom to do things that aren’t straight down the line.”

Flaunt sees a hint of Brad Pitt in Cam Gigandet’s attitude and physique — so do we –, both amplified by long hours at the gym and the practice of Krav Maga, an Israeli self-defense and military hand-to-hand combat system. Even the mischievous smile is there.

Cam will soon feature in Twilight, an upcoming high-school vampire movie adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s popular novel. He will be James, a bad-ass vampire – Cam likes the darker roles. He will also star with Gary Oldman in The Unborn, a full-fledged horror flick. “I’ve surrounded myself with a bunch of young actors,” he said, “but when I am around an actor like Gary Oldman, I realize how [much I have to learn]. But that’s good. I really feel like this is just the beginning.”

We feel exactly the same.
