The Shirtless Tennis Pros of the ATP Calendar

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour issued their first-ever calendar, just in time to ride the PR wave of the final Grand Slam of the year that kicked off on Monday in Flushing Meadows. Fifteen players from twelve countries joined the initiative, among them Charmants.com’s favorites Dmitry Tursunov of Russia (above) and Paul-Henri Mathieu of France — who reveals his slightly hairy chest.

The behind-the-scenes video is available on the ATP website. French photographer Corinne Dubreuil did the shooting and Dmitry obviously enjoyed the attention - but we already knew about his shirtless tendencies, didn’t we?

“We wanted to show the body of a pro tennis player,” explains Chris O’Neill, Vice President of Marketing for the ATP. “This sport requires maximum energy, speed and stamina and all athletes need to achieve their highest level of fitness to compete every day on the court.”

German player Tommy Haas certainly understands the above statement to its full extent, with obvious benefits in the abs department.

“This calendar is very nice,” says Russian Mikhail Youzhny. “It’s elegant and stylish. You don’t see calendars like that in sports.”

Still, we were a bit disappointed with the lack of celebrities like Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or Marat Safin. We also felt that not enough attention was paid to these guys’ legs. Spaniard Fernando Verdasco sure has an awesome torso, but he definitely has legs to match.

Anyway, the calendar is only 13 bucks. Make it 25 in 2010 and show us the whole package, ok?
