Will Westall in Out Magazine: Beauty and the Nuke

Derek Jarman (1942 – 1994) was an English film director, stage designer (he directed the 1989 tour by the UK duo Pet Shop Boys), a writer and a prominent gay rights activist. He was diagnosed with HIV in 1986, and spent the last years of his life in a little black house built in the middle of an eerily beautiful cottage-garden he created on the flat expanse of shingle that faces the nuclear power plant in Dungeness, Kent, United Kingdom.

The November issue of Out Magazine is featuring ‘The Last of England’, a majestic and gloomy editorial photographed by Xevi Muntané as an homage to Jarman’s narrative work and experimental visual style. It was shot in Dungeness, with British model Will Westall wearing Burberrry Prorsum’s spring-summer 2009 designs. The little black house and the nuclear monstrosity are in the background.

The lighthouse is there too, for all the lost souls.
