French-Tunisian fashion designer Hedi Slimane, 40, has been a club kid since his youth, and everything he does breathes rock’n'roll. His models almost always reflect his fascination with spindly physiques, long hair on the face, chaotic styling and a mix of clothing that they have been wearing for days, including pieces from their girlfriend.
Like Walter Pfeiffer, Slimane used to pluck models from Berlin streets. Isaac Ferry, the son of rocker Bryan Ferry, made his catwalk debut at one of Slimane’s shows when he was 16, like many other young rock stars, like Pete Doherty. Hedi Slimane has started scores of careers in the modeling industry. British model Ash Stymest is his latest muse, and we’ve been reporting almost weekly on the flurry of fashion editorials in which he appeared lately.
The photos we’re featuring today belong to Hedi Slimane’s photographic diary. A series of black and white and raw pictures of Ashley wrestling with friends (above), in pain or ecstatic, depending — and crisp portraits of a youth in grey hoodie (below).
Also hiding in the gallery, an intriguing tattoo — not Ashley’s — reading And miles to go before I sleep, a British youth wearing an armet, and the famous Vogue Hommes shots of Josh Beech wearing leather and steel masks. So much to ponder.
