The April issue of Interview will be on newsstands March 24th, with the magazine’s vision of the future boldly splashed on the cover: Zac Efron plus a new logo and layout crafted by new design team M/M Paris.
Milk director Gus Van Sant and photographer Mikael Jansson once again teamed up for the feature story — their October 2008 interview of James Franco is over here. Van Sant asked the 21-year-old High School Musical heartthrob talk about his upcoming movie, 17 Again (April 17th) and Me and Orson Welles (later this year).
About playing a 37-year-old character trapped in a 17 years old body, Efron said it was a big and welcome change from HSM: “You know, I’ve fallen in love, and I’ve not known what I want to do with my own future — I still don’t know. But I’ve never had a daughter who I’m looking out for. I’ve never been proud of my son. I’ve never gotten a divorce. It was interesting trying to figure that out.”
The shooting with Jansson was also an enjoyable experience: “There was, like, a giant sandbox in the middle of a studio, and then I just got to roll around in the dirt for a couple of hours. I got pretty dirty by the end of it, so that was fun. It was definitely different from anything I had ever done before. The photographer was really fun to work with… He recommended some furniture.”
Among the recommendations, a superexpensive vintage Herman Miller desk circa 1940s: “I’m lucky they’re letting me test it out at my place for a couple of days before I have to buy it,” Efron told Van Sant. Even Hollywood heavyweights are, like, not totally impervious to the crisis after all.
