Here is the second part of our exclusive interview with photographer David Arnot — you’ll find Part I here. And guess who’s posing for him? Model John Huetter, who was recently given polaroid sublimity by you-know-who.
What’s the most important quality a photographer needs to have?
It’s important to want to create something beautiful or interesting. Not everyone will love your point of view so you have to be persistent and continue despite rejections or disappointments. Taking the pictures is really the only fun part for me. I don’t enjoy technical details and computer things but it’s a fact of life today if you want to move forward.
Do you feel that your identity changes when you lift the camera to your eye? Do you act differently?
I certainly relax more, and don’t think about other outside things that are happening in my life or the outside world. It’s really my get-away time.
How do you know that a photo is really good?
You just see it and know that it’s right, the colors, the composition, lighting. Everything just comes together and the picture just looks right.

What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
I am fascinated by passionate positive people who are committed to living a full life each day. I have been an athlete my entire life, and l like to do and watch things that are physical in nature. I don’t consider myself a very emotional or spiritual person. I am the same person everyday and try to treat everyone the same no matter who they are.
What turns you off?
Models who are late! (laughs) Unless they are super hot! Then maybe they can get away with it…
What is the one lasting impression you want to leave in your photos?
Just an image that is beautiful and sexy. Maybe I will create more important concepts in the future that will change the world, but for now some beautiful shots seem to be enough to make people happy.
What can you tell us about your model, John Huetter (Adam NYC)?
John is from Buffalo, New York. I think he is a great young model. His face is very expressive and I think he could become a great actor as well as a model. He is very funny and creative. We shot in the afternoon in my New York studio and I would like to shoot him again as he is a complex guy who can create many different moods.
And something tells us that Jeremy Kost is ready for round two with this one.
